Alcohol Addiction in Youth-Why are the Factors Causing Alcohol Abuse

Recent trends show that more and more people of a younger age are consuming alcohol and getting addicted to it in a big way. Youngsters of as little as 10 to 12 years are abusing alcohol.

What are the reasons that are causing this kind of substance abuse in such a young population? Analysts have surmised the following reasons may exist:-1. Easy access – The first reason for alcohol addiction in the youth today is that they are quite easily exposed to alcohol. They find people consuming alcohol in their homes, in social functions, in public places like bars and pubs and even on television. This creates a sense of curiosity in them to take a taste of the drink too.
2. The connection between alcohol and having fun – From their adults, children learn that alcohol consumption is associated with fun. People have it when they are partying or simply when they are happy. This makes them include alcohol abuse in their own private celebrations.
3. A sense of adventure – Children have a natural tendency to try out new things. In addition, alcohol is something that adults forbid children to drink. That is all the more reason why they feel like trying it out when they have the opportunity.
4. Hereditary factors – It has been seen that children who have alcoholic parents in their home have a greater susceptibility to turn to alcohol themselves. This is both due to a biological propensity as well as due to the psychological effect of seeing alcohol being consumed so freely in their house.
