Don’t Let Fear Keep You From Addiction Treatment
People have a lot of fears about getting treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. This is understandable because there are many unknown elements when entering a rehab facility, especially for the first time.
New situations are difficult when one doesn’t know what to expect. People allow fear to control to their lives in many ways. Letting it stop you from getting the help that you need and deserve is a mistake.Addicts are afraid that a treatment program won’t work for them. Perhaps they have already been through rehab and relapsed or they’ve seen other people fail. They don’t want to waste the time, money, and effort to go through this process when they believe there’s a good chance it could be ineffective. Along with this, they risk being embarrassed if they have to go back home to their family and friends and let everyone know that they aren’t “fixed”. The truth is that choosing the right type of treatment program can have a huge effect on whether the individual is successful. Also, many people really benefit from going to rehab multiple times.
Another fear about rehab is of the various types of pain or discomfort it can cause. Everyone says that addiction treatment is a lot of work, and it is. The addict may hear this and be afraid that they won’t be able to handle it. There is physical pain associated with an alcohol and drug rehab program. A lot of emotional discomfort can come up in counseling and group therapy sessions. Opening up about your deepest issues can be scary for anyone. Individuals also fear that certain people will find out they have an addiction if they go to rehab. However, working through discomfort is the only means of addiction recovery. The long-term benefits and process of personal growth are well worth the temporary grief.
