People may be into a drug abuse for long years without actually becoming active drug addicts. When you are using any drug for a use other than intended, it is called as drug abuse.

Drug addiction is a higher stage when you become totally chemically dependent on the substance and cannot stay away from it without suffering drastic physical symptoms of withdrawal. But how and when this transformation from an abuser to an addict happens depends on a host of factors. The biology of the body is a very important factor. Every person’s body does not behave the same way to the substances that are put into it. Some people have a higher resistance to the substance and some people are quite vulnerable. This depends on the overall constitution of the body. How much of the drug your body can take will be also decided by these factors. That is why you can never say how soon you will transform from being a drug abuser to being a drug addict.

The nature of the drug is also responsible sometimes. Sometimes, some people have a resistance to a particular type of drug, while they are more vulnerable to another type.

But if you are highly resistant to a particular drug and can control its usage, it does not mean you are not suffering its harmful healthy effects too. The body and the brain are both getting affected in the same way, and if you were to become an addict later on, you will have to face the same difficulties of the drug rehab program. Hence, it is best that you kept totally away from addictive drugs when you still can.
